10/01/10 (Fri) 10/03/10 (Sun) BAC Star-Spangled Camporee Fort McHenry, Baltimore, MD Baltimore Area Council will be holding the Star-Spangled Camporee to celebrate the 100th Anniversary at Fort McHenry October 1-3.  Four Rivers District will be camping at Latrobe Park just down the street from the Fort.

The troop is already registered.  However, because this is a council event and because of the layout of the campsite, we need to confirm our numbers by this Friday, August 6, 2010.  The cost for this event is $45, which covers the $35 registration which includes special commemorative Camporee patch, t-shirt, full access to Fort McHenry, and a lifetime of memories (see flyer) as well as the cost of meals.

Please let Chris know if you and your scout plans to attend as well as the t-shirt size.

At last Thursday's (17 March) meeting Ellen talked about our trip to Sea Base in 2011.  Our adventure begins on July 7th and we'll return on July 13th. We were awarded two crews for the week of 7-13 July 2011, which means we have twelve scouts and up to four adults that can attend.

The "basic" requirements for Sea Base are the scout must be 14 years old by September 1st, 2011 and must be able to pass the BSA Swim test. No exceptions to either of those requirements.

The troop committee also has requirements for attending Sea Base.  Mainly...the scout MUST be active in the troop. We are following the same guidelines in our troop by-laws used for advancement:
  • 50% participation in troop fundraising activities. NOTE: We will have specific fundraising activities for Sea Base.
  • 75% attendance at Troop meetings.
  • 50% of all Troop functions -- camping trips, day trips, special events.
  • 75% participation in Troop Community Outreach projects.
Essentially....we are looking for scouts to commit to the troop. No one will be allowed to go if they aren't participating in the troop.

The cost is ~$1400 to $1500...and that covers everything - the Sea Base fee and transportation to/from there. Our goal is to raise enough money to cover the "transportation" cost so the only cost to the scout is the Sea Base cost (~$700).

MOST IMPORTANT:
A $100 deposit for all scouts (and adults) is due this week (25 March). Monthly payments are also required to meet contractual obligations we'll have with Sea Base. Gwen Neary or Ellen can fill you in on the details.  Please discuss this with your son and if he wants to attend...send the money in this week. We only have 12 spaces available.

Please feel free to contact Scott Brown, Chris Vincent, or Ellen Pomerantz if you have any questions.
